Dear Mom & Dad –

The Jap who had this stationery doesn’t feel like writing so I’m going to use it for him. Guess he’d write up & down but I’ll stick to the orthodox so’s you can read it.

I’m still in the battery and haven’t been out front since I last wrote. We have been busy however, moving to new positions. We’re still pushing thru the Nips like water thru a sieve.

The spot we’re in now used to be a Jap ordinance supply dump which they must have left on the double. Everything is still here from aluminum pistons to brake bands. Must have been a blow to the enemy. They surely have some good equipment too, but certainly don’t know how to use it.

I’m glad you’re saving all the clippings about us over here – they’ll be fun to look back on. I have an idea that the toughest fighting in the campaign is sort of overshadowed by another phase of it. Can’t mention locations but you understand I’m sure.

The Western & Eastern fronts look rather encouraging these days. How those Huns can with stand the terrific pasting they’re taking from the air and ground over there, will always be a mystery to me. The end surely must come soon.

Glad to hear about Virgy’s recovery after the birth. Another member added to the clan since I’ve been gone – I’m truly going to be a stranger on my return.

Your Xmas cards were very nice and military. Aren’t you getting a little classy – having your names printed on  & all? Some stuff! By the way you sent me two. Spose you were afraid I wouldn’t notice the engraved names. Eh?

I’m glad you didn’t send anything for my birthday cuz I’m not hurting for a thing. We have a combat PX now, where we get almost everything we want. We even get five bottles of soft drinks per week plus our 6 bottles of beer. What a war!? Thank’s for the “well wishes” that’s all I really need & want.

No, I haven’t been flying for quite a while now & don’t expect to because our btry. is short one officer now. Somehow he zigged when he should have zagged and was clipped by a bullet – only a wound, he’ll be OK and probably get a nice boatride to the USA.

Don’t mind telling you I’m surprised at Rolie not coming over to see you. Maybe he was busy but no one is so busy that they can’t travel a mile to see some friends they haven’t seen for a year. That’s not like Rolie – can’t figure it out?

I received your pictures today of the snow in front & back of the house. My mouth really did water. Dad & Grandma look fine – you look a little on the grumpy side in the one. Who ya sore at?

Have you payed the Healy’s a return visit yet?

Don’t worry about my bonds, the reason they were slow was that I didn’t draw my pay for two months, so they couldn’t take out the allotment.

Well I’ll close now with greetings to all. I still feel great & hope you do too.

Love, Dorance
